After creating virtual machine with VMWare Player, Windows 8 installation should start automatically. (If not, start virtual machine manually).
Check and modify language settings, then click “Next”. License screen will show up, click “agree” (if you agree) and click Next.
For install type, you can choose upgrade or custom install. Upgrade is for upgrading existing older version of Windows. Since there are no existing version of Windows in newly created virtual machine, choose “Custom : Install Windows only”.
Windows 8 installation starts, so wait for a while. After a while, Personalize screen shows up.
Select color you like, and enter PC name. Then click Next.
In Settings, you can choose Express or Customize. Choosing express should be fine.
Following are what you would see if you press customize. Even if you choose customize, simply leaving settings as default and pressing Next results same as choosing Express.
In sign in screen, using Microsoft account will connect your Windows 8 to Microsoft server, and it will sync data and settings between multiple PCs you use. For example, desktop background image, color theme, lock screen are synced. You can choose to use Local account, like older Windows.
Either not using Microsoft account, or network is disconnected and can’t connect to server will move to local account setting screen. Either you choose, you can easily switch between two later on.
To create local account, enter user name, password, and hint. Then press Finish.
After pressing Finish, Windows 8 preparation will run for a while. After a while, Windows 8 will start.
Now you are done with installing Windows 8, but there are one more step to go for making Windows 8 to run better on VMWare Player.
