You can install Windows 8 on laptop with low resolution screen, such as 1024×600. However, you can use desktop but you can’t use Store app. If you try to run Store app, it will show you error with insufficient resolution.
But, there is a way to run Store app on low resolution environment, though it may be bit aggressive. Method is same for running Store app in window mode, using simulator.
First, install Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows 8. Then, open file explorer, and move to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Simulator\11.0
You will see “Microsoft.Windows.Simulator.exe”, double click and launch. Simulator starts showing Start screen. After simulator launch, right click simulator icon in task bar, and select pin to task bar, so you can easily launch from next time.
Click display icon at right side of the simulator window, and you will see resolution set to 1366×768 as a default. Inside simulator, OS is virtually running in this resolution, and then shrunk to fit window size.
Text might be hard to read, and CPU load may be high, but you get Store app running. Inside simulator, it seems like remote connecting to self PC, what you do inside simulator reflects back to your actual environment.
To end simulator, right click icon on task bar and select close.
