When you install Windows 8 Enterprise downloaded from MSDN for example, setup completes without asking for product key, and won’t be activated. You will see OS build number at lower right corner of desktop screen, and system info shows windows not activated.
By default, Enterprise version is set to KMS certificate mode. To switch to MAK and use product key you got from MSDN, you need to run some commands.
There are two ways, GUI and CUI style to switch to MAK.
For GUI style, press “Win + R” key and type
Window asking for product key will pop up, enter product key and you are done.
Right after closing window, you will still see build number at lower right corner of screen, but will go away after sign-out and back in.
For CUI style, press “Win + X” key and select “Command Prompt (Admin)”.
In command prompt, enter
slmgr -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
Where XXXX is a product key.
