Like some Sony or IBM laptops, there are PCs with fingerprint sensor. In Windows 8, default driver and software are included to support some of major fingerprint sensor devices.
I have Vaio SZ series laptop with fingerprint device, and clean installing Windows 8 automatically installed device driver and were able to use for account sign in.
Looking in to device manager, device was recognized as Fingerprint Sensor under Biometric devices.
To register fingerprint, open control panel from setting charm.
Click “User Accounts and Family Safety”, then “User Accounts”.
If your PC has fingerprint sensor device recognized, you should see “Manager your fingerprint data”.
Follow Wizard, and it will ask to enter current password.
Click button at top of each finger, and register fingerprint. Multiple fingerprints can be registered.
It will ask to scan finger multiple times, so swipe repeatedly until progress bar reaches to right.
After registering, click Finish. You don’t need to register every fingers.
Now, you can swipe finger at sign in screen from next time (you will see no difference in sign in screen).
You can register different finger for different account, so you can switch account by swiping different finger, e.g. local account and Microsoft account.
